WOMEN'S SOBER LIVING HOMEIn The San Fernando Valley
In recovery from substance abuse, your home should be a place where you can relax and escape from the pressure of the outside world. Living in an environment that does not afford a safe or substance-free space can jeopardize your recovery, especially in the early days after treatment. You likely have enough to worry about at work, school or social engagements, where you may feel uncomfortable as you adjust to your new sober lifestyle. You might spend time around people who are not sober and feel like you need to be on your guard. When you get home after a long day, you should be able to leave these worries at the door.
Women who go through addiction recovery treatment often do not have safe and supportive home environments to return to following detox or residential programs. Some women were living with roommates who also used or abused substances; others struggled with a bad relationship, or their loved ones are not prepared to offer them a place to live until they are more established in their sobriety.
If you are among the many women in recovery who are in need of a safe and supportive home environment as you adjust to a sober life, the women’s sober living home at A Step in the Right Direction in Los Angeles is ready to welcome you. Our exclusive, luxury women’s sober living home opened its doors in 2000, and since then we have had the joy of helping empower hundreds of women to get their lives back together and rejoin their loved ones, children, family and friends.
At A Step in the Right Direction’s women’s sober living home, clients share their experiences, their strength, and their hope with each other and empower one another in recovery. Peer-to-peer support increases the odds that our clients stay clean and sober long term. The women’s sober living home is warm, inviting and pet-friendly. Is Sober Living Right for You?
Women’s sober living can be appropriate for almost anyone in recovery. While it is most strongly recommended for women who do not have another safe and sober home option, it can be helpful even in other cases. The tightly knit community found in our women’s sober living home, along with the recovery resources available and the promise of a substance-free environment, makes sober living at A Step in the Right Direction a viable choice for all women pursuing a substance-free lifestyle after struggling with addiction.
Sober living is best suited for women who are ready to begin their transition into independent life, or who have recently had a minor relapse but do not need full-time treatment. If you are still struggling with active addiction, you may need to go through a detox program or a residential treatment program before admission to sober living. “However, please don’t let this discourage you from calling us. Our staff is more than happy to speak with you to see how we can help.”
You should be prepared to contribute to our sober living household by being a part of our community meetings, attending to shared household chores and being considerate of the space and belongings of your housemates. We strive to create an open-minded, respectful environment where the women in our sober living home feel safe and comfortable around one another.
In addition, sober living is not intended to be a permanent solution — most of our clients stay for a few months as they adjust to working or caring for themselves, and then transition back to their family homes or long-term independent housing. While we do welcome women at many different stages of recovery, our goal is to make sure you get back on your feet and eventually transition out of sober living and into fully independent life.
